An Unusual Connection produces extraordinary music in radio-ready quality at the Hallbox Studio in Kreuzberg. We would be delighted if you would attend a session as a guest and report on our project.
The Hallbox Studio is a cabinet of curiosities. The converted apartment on Oranienplatz provides a retreat for a small scene of international musicians who work on producing broadcast-ready music.
Philipp Spell is the founder of An Unusual Connection and a passionate collector of music studio gear dating from the 1960s to the 1980s. The Hallbox Studio features components from famous studio consoles alongside obscure Italian echo chambers. Tube microphones work hand in hand with early digital devices, and suspended majestically above it all is a blue plastic shell – a child’s bathtub with built-in glass rods filled with different volumes of water, which chime together when activated at the appropriate time by pulling a cord.
Embracing the moment creates awareness and creativity, movement, friction and evolution. This is how we pursue the idea of constant progression.
